Build Around the Staff, Not Just Beside It

Every 10 Strength provides 10% increased Weapon Damage, every 10 Dexterity adds 1% increased Attack Speed, and every 10 Intelligence grants 1% increased Area of Effect. Those numbers make the weapon unusually sensitive to the rest of the loadout.

Strength should usually be the first offensive priority because it improves the damage profile immediately. A ring with a strong Strength roll can outperform a piece with a modest damage modifier if the staff is already scaling from several attribute sources. The same logic applies to amulets, gloves, boots, and body armor. When comparing two rare items, do not look only at their individual tooltip contribution. Check how much each one improves the complete character after the staff's bonuses are applied.

When Dexterity and Intelligence Pull Ahead

Dexterity becomes more attractive once the character has enough Strength to feel comfortable against tougher packs. Faster attacks improve the rhythm of skills, make basic strikes feel less sluggish, and can help maintain pressure on bosses with short damage windows. It also supports any Dexterity requirement on the chosen skill setup, so the value is not limited to the staff's passive scaling.

Intelligence is more specialized. Its Area of Effect bonus has limited impact in a single-target encounter, yet it can make a noticeable difference during dense maps. Wider coverage reduces the number of attacks needed to finish scattered enemies and makes movement through crowded layouts smoother. Mapping builds may willingly trade a small amount of raw damage for Intelligence, while boss-oriented characters can keep this attribute lower unless their equipment provides it efficiently.

Defensive Thresholds Still Decide Whether Damage Matters

The most common mistake with this weapon is chasing attributes while allowing life, resistances, or recovery to fall too far. A character that deals impressive paper damage but collapses after one heavy hit will not clear difficult content consistently. Upgrade in layers: secure the required resistances and a dependable life pool first, then look for Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence on the same items.

This approach also makes the build easier to tune. If one slot already provides excellent Strength and life, another can focus on resistances or Dexterity instead of copying the same stat everywhere. Pillar rewards coordination between slots, not blind stacking. The best loadout usually has a clear priority for each item rather than identical attribute rolls across the entire character.

Runeforging Is a Milestone, Not an Automatic Purchase

The weapon has a defined upgrade route through Runeforging. Its Runeforged version requires the original staff, 425 Verisium, and Vorana's Crest of the Scythe. The Runemastered version then requires the Runeforged weapon, 10 Exceptional Verisium, and Olroth's Crest of the Sun. The final version displays Cold Damage as its base damage while retaining the increased Melee Strike Range.

That progression is appealing, but timing matters. If the rest of the loadout is still missing core defenses, upgrading the staff may produce less practical power than improving a weak amulet, ring, or pair of boots. Save the major weapon step for the point where the character can survive its intended content and convert the added scaling into real clear speed.
